ZD sits on the Silverado Trail at the Rutherford end of the valley, and it has been run by the deLeuze family for three generations. That continuity shows up in the glass. The house style is consistent rather than fashionable, built on Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc, with a Reserve tier that includes the Founder's Pinot Noir.
The estate is farmed organically and the tasting room is contemporary and comfortable, with long views back across the vineyards. Tastings run daily, 10am to 4pm, by appointment. It is a steady, well-run stop rather than a spectacle, which makes it a good anchor for a Napa tour day that also takes in something smaller.
