Stags' Leap Winery

Stags' Leap Winery sits on one of California's earliest wine estates, and the microclimate and terroir under the Stags Leap Palisades have supported a classical approach to viticulture here for well over a century.

Cabernet Sauvignon leads, but the Petite Sirah is the wine that regulars come for and it has a long history on this property. The estate and its manor house are a large part of the appeal. Michael scores it 8 across ambiance, wine and staff, which puts it in the small group of stops in this collection that are excellent on every measure rather than strong on one. Visits are by appointment. Note that this is a different property from Stag's Leap Wine Cellars next door, a distinction worth getting right when booking a southern Napa day.
