Silver Oak

Silver Oak has made one thing for fifty years and made it consistently: Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in American oak rather than French, which gives the wines their recognisable signature. There are two estates, one in Oakville and one in Alexander Valley near Healdsburg, and the same grape reads noticeably differently across them.

Release Day is an event in its own right for people who follow the house. There is also a Sauvignon Blanc and a culinary program alongside the tastings. Michael scores ambiance and wine at 8 apiece. If you are also visiting Twomey, the Pinot and Sauvignon Blanc side of the same family, the two together make a good study in one group's range. A staple of a Napa Cabernet day.
