Salvestrin is a small family-owned estate in St. Helena, and the wines come off the Dr. Crane Vineyard, one of the valley's historic sites. The family have stewarded this land across generations and the wines are framed as chapters in that story rather than one-off vintages.
The visit is deliberately unpolished in the best sense. You are likely to see a forklift crossing the crush pad and dogs underfoot, with Ed on the porch keeping an eye on the vines. It is a working farm, not a showroom. Private tastings are by booking, and there is lodging on the property if you want to stay. Michael's staff score of 8 reflects exactly this kind of welcome. A strong small-producer stop on a central Napa day.
