Jean-Jacques Michel planted the first vines here in 1979, on south-facing benchland in the western hills of Dry Creek Valley that catches the morning sun before the Pacific fog arrives each afternoon. In 1991 Jacques Pierre Schlumberger joined, bringing more than 400 years of Alsace winemaking heritage.
The result is a 100-acre estate that is entirely self-contained, solar-powered, and growing more than fifteen varietals on the original land. The wines lean Bordeaux, with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot alongside Zinfandel and Syrah. Tastings are offered daily, which is more accessible than most estates of this quality. Michael scores ambiance and wine at 8 apiece. A strong choice for a northern Sonoma day built around Dry Creek.
