Larkmead

Larkmead was established in 1895 and remains one of the oldest family-owned wineries in Napa Valley. The 115-acre estate vineyard is farmed organically and sits at the Calistoga end of the valley.

Cabernet Sauvignon is the centre of the operation, with Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Zinfandel, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling also planted. The Research Block is the detail that sets Larkmead apart from other historic estates: a dedicated plot used to trial varieties and techniques against a changing climate, which is a serious long-term commitment rather than a marketing exercise. Michael scores the wine an 8. Visits to the historic estate are by booking. Strong for anyone building an organic Napa tour with real depth.
