Kaz

Kaz Winery has closed. In the owner's own words, it was time to shut the door on a thirty-year chapter, and he has put his energy and knowledge into a startup instead. Kaz was one of the smallest wineries in Northern California and was known for non-sulfited wines and ports, which made it a genuinely unusual stop.

The successor is Anandam, run by winemaker and owner Poonam Gupta in the Red Hills AVA, working a vineyard that was part of the closed-down Boatique Winery at 1435 Big Valley Road, Lakeport. That is in Lake County, well north of Sonoma and outside our tour regions. Michael scored Kaz a 9 for staff and 7 apiece for ambiance and wine, which says a lot about what the room was like.
