Kamen is screenwriter Robert Mark Kamen's estate above Sonoma, and the operating principle is stated plainly: ripe fruit, low yields, high quality. The mountain vineyards are farmed by Phil Coturri, one of the most respected organic viticulturists in the region, and that partnership is a large part of why these wines have the reputation they do.
The tasting room is on East Napa Street in Sonoma, walkable from the plaza, which separates the tasting from the difficult mountain drive. Michael scores wine and staff at 8 apiece, though the ambiance score of 5 reflects that this is a town room rather than an estate visit. Worth combining with other plaza-adjacent stops on a southern Sonoma morning.
