Robert Rex set out to do something nobody had done before, and fifty harvests later Deerfield Ranch is still family owned and still the originator of CleanWine, their low-histamine, low-sulfite approach.
The 23,000 square foot wine cave is the centrepiece. You walk the crushpad, then move into the cave for a tasting unlike a standard counter pour. Michael's note points specifically at tasting with Robert Rex and a ranch visit with the owner, which is the version to ask about. Tastings are family friendly, which is unusual in this collection. It sits on Highway 12 in Kenwood, easy to reach. Michael scores ambiance and wine at 8 apiece. A strong pick for a Sonoma Valley route.
