Cain

Cain sits in a spectacular natural bowl at the crest of the Spring Mountain District, looking down over Napa Valley. The setting is a large part of why Michael scores the ambiance an 8, and the fog moving through La Piedra is the image the winery leads with.

The house makes three Cabernet blends and nothing else: Cain Cuvee, Cain Concept and Cain Five, each drawn from its own vineyard sources with its own signature. Cain Five is the estate blend of all five Bordeaux varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec. The stated aim, that each wine needs to take us somewhere, is a useful frame for the tasting. Michael scores the wine an 8. Visits are by appointment at 3800 Langtry Road, St. Helena.
