Beringer has been operating in St. Helena for 150 years, and is a genuine pioneer rather than a marketing claim. The historic property is the reason Michael scores the ambiance an 8, and the Rhine House and hand-dug tunnels are the visit's centrepiece.
The wine programme runs from broad varietal bottlings through Single Vineyards and Knights Valley up to the Private Reserve Cabernet, covering Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Michael also scores the wine an 8, with staff at 6, so the weak point is service rather than substance. Walk-ins are accepted alongside reservations, and there are tours, virtual tastings, groups of 15 or more, weddings, private and corporate events, and dedicated event spaces. Sustainability is a formal focus. On Main Street in St. Helena, so it slots directly into a central Napa itinerary.
