Anderson's Conn Valley

Todd and Sarah Anderson have farmed their 40-acre estate in Conn Valley, at the base of Howell Mountain, since 1983. Todd still tends the vineyards and makes the wine himself, dirt to bottle, which is increasingly unusual at this level in Napa.

The tastings are held in the caves and are deliberately intimate. The winery describes the experience as a taste of what Napa once was, personal and relaxed and off the beaten track, and Michael's scores back that up: a 9 for ambiance, the joint highest in this collection, with wine and staff at 8 apiece. Cabernet Sauvignon is the focus. It is minutes from downtown St. Helena at 680 Rossi Road, which makes the remoteness feel further than the drive actually is. Virtual tastings and events run alongside visits. A standout on a Napa Cabernet tour for anyone tired of polished visitor centres.
