Amizetta and Spencer Clark came to Napa Valley with one idea: that the world's greatest wines come off hillsides, as they do in Europe. They searched for a hillside property and in 1979 found a steep, south-facing rocky 40-acre parcel, which is where the estate has been ever since.
This is the highest-rated winery in our entire collection. Michael gives it a perfect 10 for ambiance, 9 for wine and 9 for staff, a 9.3 average that nothing else here matches. Cabernet Sauvignon is the focus, in standard and large format alongside the Tradition wines. There is on-site lodging, so you can stay at the estate rather than drive off it, and a sustainability programme across the vineyard. Tastings are by request at 1099 Greenfield Road on 707-963-1460. If you build one Napa Cabernet tour around a single destination, make it this one.
